Why Choose Gallbladder Surgery with Us?

Reasons to book gallbladder surgery with James Kirkby-Bott
Minimal Wait Times

The longer symptoms go on and the less rest time there is between bouts of pain, the more difficult surgery becomes. Research shows that up to 1 in 3 patients suffer further complications from waiting months for gallbladder surgery after an admission to hospital with gallstone complications.

The shorter your wait, the smaller this risk.

We offer consultations within 7 days of contacting us and aim to perform your surgery 1-3 weeks after seeing you.

Extensive Experience

Mr Kirkby-Bott  is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in managing the problems caused by gallstones and has performed over 750 urgent gallbladder operations.

He has established an expertise in how to get the worst gallbladders out using a keyhole technique and avoiding serious complications such as bile duct injury.

He also set up an acute surgery unit at University Hospital Southampton in 2013 where urgent gallbladder cases were the most frequent work.

Do I Need Gallbladder Surgery?

Those in need of gallbladder surgery are having or have had some attacks of debilitating pain, possibly admitted to hospital as an emergency, gallbladder infections, jaundice or pancreatitis – all of which can be dangerous to your health.

Due to this, the greatest reason for wanting surgery sooner rather than later is to prevent further attacks of pain and vomiting. Many admitted to a NHS hospital as an emergency will leave still with their gallbladder and are fearful of what they will do if symptoms return whilst on a long waiting list for surgery.

Before Your Surgery

As a minimum, you need an US gallbladder report and the results of a blood test called a ‘Liver Function Test’ (LFT). Sometimes, these need repeating. Occasionally, other tests such as an MRCP or ERCP are needed before you have your gallbladder removed. We can arrange all tests needed,

If you are waiting for these tests to be carried out under NHS, we can arrange to get them done quickly.

– 77yr old gallbladder patient
“From the initial consultation with Mr Kirkby-Bott to dealing with his staff to having the surgery, it was all dealt with with care and efficiency. After having the surgery, I was supposed to stay at my son's house to help with recuperation for a week, but I actually went home where I live alone after two days because I felt so well, and it’s been up-hill since then."
– 70yr old gallbladder patient
“Right from the initial, consultation Mr Kirkby-Bott described everything about my gall bladder procedure and made time to answer all of my questions and concerns regarding both surgery and post-surgery. He gave me confidence in my decision. He also provided a link to his website that had an incredible amount of information about the surgery, risks and what to expect post op and how to look after the wounds.
The whole experience of my surgery was done in a calm and professional manner and I trusted in him completely. I would definitely recommend Mr Kirkby-Bott and his wonderful team to anyone that requires his experience and expertise.”
